One of the top questions around the Southland Conference was the status of the 2024 football schedule, with Stephen F. Austin set to announce its return to the SLC in a matter of hours. Sources have indicated that teams and fans will soon have answers, with the Southland set to announce its 2024 football schedule on Thursday morning.

The new 2024 football schedule is expected to bring some changes. It will consist of seven conference contests, allowing teams to honor their contracts with non-conference opponents this season. However, with the announcement on Thursday, each team in the Southland will have a different conference slate, including a change in their bye week, adding a new dynamic to the upcoming season.

With the addition of the Lumberjacks, the SLC will have nine football teams in 2024. That number will grow to ten teams in 2025 when UTRGV begins its first season in FCS. The Southland Conference may move to a divisional format for the 2025-2026 school year. However, that has yet to be confirmed, and the potential divisional alignment remains a mystery.
