Jarrail Jackson’s entire year is spent recruiting – not only because he is the head football and baseball coach for the Steers. Recruiting year-round for both sports is necessary when players continuously leave for other schools that offer scholarships and NIL money.

“These offensive players come here and put up their stats, then get out of here,” Jackson said. “We try to hold onto them and find creative ways to get them some grant money, but we don’t have the scholarship money to divvy up. We have some kids that can play. It’s just a matter of keeping them after their first season or two.”

While Jackson and his staff are scouring the country trying to get older and more experienced, the focus of spring practice was ensuring the new quarterbacks and wide receivers understood the offense.
