Calvin Ruzicka openly admits his first season as a head coach at the collegiate level was a learning experience. Some of that experience led the veteran to make changes to his coaching staff for the 2024 season. Former SAGU (now Nelson) head coach Ryan Smith was hired as the offensive coordinator, while Scott Brock, a veteran with over 30 years of coaching experience at multiple levels, was named defensive coordinator.

“Both of those guys have instant credibility when they walk in the room, whether around our young coaching staff or recruits and transfers,” Ruzicka said. “They’ve been helpful for me, too. I lean on those guys to help me realize that I don’t need to handle everything and chase every little problem.”

Ruzicka hopes their experience leads to a share of ETBU’s first American Southwest Conference title since 2015.
