Angelo State became a regional powerhouse by recruiting and developing Texas high school football players, which has allowed the Rams to become consistent each year. However, three losses by a combined 18 points in 2023 left them disappointed.

“You would’ve thought the world ended for our kids when we finished 7-3, and that’s a good thing,” Jeff Girsch said. “It shows their expectations are bigger than we’ve had in the past. Our recruiting will continue to focus on high school players because that’s how we’ve won championships, and it’s how we’ll get to where we compete for national championships.”

While the Rams set the foundation with high school players, Girsch understands the need to bring in the occasional player from the Transfer Portal or junior college to help his program reach its ultimate goal of winning a national championship.
