Willie Fritz is putting the band back together as sources confirm that LSU tight ends and special team coach Slade Nagle is expected to become the next offensive coordinator at Houston. Naegle worked for Fritz at Tulane from 2016-23, starting as the tight ends coach and ending as the offensive quarterback and assistant head coach.

Tulane was 23-4 in Fritz’s last two seasons in New Orleans with Naegle by his side. It was Nagle who became interim coach for the Tulane bowl game after Fritz took the Houston job last season. He replaces Kevin Barbay.

The Green Wave averaged 26.4 points in 2023 and 36 in 2022, good for 19th in the nation. Houston ranked 133 out of 134 teams in scoring offense in 2024 with 14 points per game. No team scored fewer than Houston’s 20 total touchdowns.

Matt Zenitz was first to report.
