Two-time defending state champion Albany headlines this region but the Lions were hit with major graduation losses so a repeat will be much more difficult in a region that looks to be stronger top to bottom.

Wellington and Clarendon move over to Region II from Region I and will immediately move into contender status. Clarendon advanced to the regional final and knocked Wellington off a year ago in district play, but the Broncos have to replace some key sill position losses. Wellington on the other hand has a bit more back at the skill spots and they’ll get the very slight edge over Clarendon. Shamrock and Wheeler will be locked in a tight battle for the third spot.

Windthorst returns thirteen starters from an area round playoff team a year ago and could be even better in 2024 with a sophomore QB who started a dozen games as a freshman. Seymour, Haskell and Archer City all look to be locked in a tight battle for the second spot, but there’s a definite gap between these three and the bottom three teams in the district.

Two-time defending state champion Albany enters the year as the favorite in 7-2A Division II, but the gap has closed between the Lions and the rest of the field as AHS took some big hits with graduation losses and teams like Miles and Roscoe expect to even better than they were a year ago. Cross Plains expects to hold off a much-improved Hamlin squad for the final playoff spot.

Look for Muenster, who started slow a year ago to be right in the mix as a contender in Region II as the Hornets return seven on both sides of the ball and bring back nineteen lettermen. The battle for the second seed should be hotly contested with Collinsville, a back-to-back regional finalist looking to remain a regional contender despite big graduation losses and Lindsay who returns twenty starters from a playoff team in 2023.
